Personality: While exuding a rather pretentious air, Britannica is anything but. Though her high fashions may show off her just as high upbringing, the Miqo'te is a quiet, polite soul with much respect for most people. Reserved but curious, she takes a while to warm up to new faces, but once she's comfortable, she become a playful, almost flirty sort of minx. She is very studious, and knows a little about everything, but doesn't often share her knowledge. She has a multitude of favorite colors, including black and blue, and she tries to keep up to date with fashionable trends.

Note on naming: Britannica was raised by an orphaned Keeper who herself was raised by Elezens, and is also unconventionally named, in terms of Keeper naming conventions. Britannica hardly knows much about her Miqo'te roots, and it isn't of much consequence. She just happens to be a Miqo'te.

Troubled Beginnings

Britannica De Aurelia was promised to the pitch Black before she born into the world of Eoreza. Born to a Miqo'te mother and Elezen stepfather, her biological Miqo'te father left months prior to her birth in the pursuit of the most ancient of occult knowledge in a mad attempt to obtain the greatest power known to the realm. In exchange for his firstborn, he would be given knowledge to even surpass the best skilled in magicks. But, foolishly, he didn't expect his life to be forfeit once he agreed to this trade. 13 days after Britannica's birth, her mother was visited by figures in dark adornments to anoint the newborn in black ink, to signify the Black's newest charge and vessel, imbuing her with the arcane energy of unimaginable destructive power. The knowledge her reckless father sought became hers to claim.

Growing up was hard for the young Miqo'te, the small, but affluent town she hailed from full of gossips and fearmongers alike. The word of the dark figures visiting her family's abode spread far and fast among the townspeople, children being warned about the "troubled one," to keep far from her. An incident of bullying by some Hyur and Lalafell school children forced Britannica to unleash a torrent of unbridled flame around her, burning one of the children's face. This, of course, ostracized her further. Friends were scarce, and compassion even scarcer. And then the visions and tremors came.

Britannica's body would suddenly be ravished by convulsions, the powerful, arcane forces of destructive energy coursing through her small frame. Images of mages eras before her flashed in her mind's eye, showing her what came to be, until the attack was over, and the young Miqo'te was left in a broken heap. Britannica's mother and stepfather did what they could to make sure she was comfortable, but they could only do so much.

At the age of 19, a particular letter was delivered, marked for Britannica. Her mother hid the letter, afraid of what will become of her daughter, but her stepfather, a skilled Conjurer in his own right, quelled her fears. He delivered the letter to Britannica's hands.

"Thamaturge's Guild, in Ul'dah. We will be waiting for you."

Before long, Britannica was ready to set off on her journey to Ul'dah, to learn of what this cursed, blackened gift forced upon her was, and how to better control it to help instead of harm.

During her pilgrimage toward Ul'dah through Limsa Lominsa, she happened upon a stray, stranded Roegadyn, and returned him to civilization. Though she fully intended to continue on her way and never meet him again, she stayed a while to make sure he was adjusting well to society, and found herself attached. Dan, she believed, was her greatest treasure ever found.

What Was Then, All Of Now

Britannica, now seasoned with multiple adventures under her belt, hardened by numerous brushes with death, and with a better grasp on her abilities, traveled the realm to aid the friends and comrades she's found since she took that first step on her journey long ago.

During moments of rest between these experiences, Britannica took the initiative to find more about herself and the abilities she was blessed with. She spent restless nights in her inner sanctum, pouring over multiple volumes, subjects of the origin of the magicks, aether, the Black. And soon she found the title bestowed onto her by the magi who looked after her in Ul'dah: The Atramentous.

The Atramentous is composed of every element, all of these together make true Black, absolute dark, and unadulterated power. Such a thing was only mentioned in theory, very little evidence of the possibility of such a phenomenon in old tomes and texts. The scholars of Black magic weren't sure what exactly it could manifest as.

The details of the dealings her biological father made are still unclear to Britannica, but it was explained to balance the sapping dark she was born with, Hydaelyn blessed her with sustaining Light, making Britannica essentially agathokakological, if one believes the powers of Dark and Light to align with moralities as well.

All in all, Britannica has embraced the Black as her own, feeling the magicks course through her almost as a lover would caress her face. The tremors have since ceased, and her hair grows lush and thick in aetheric blue, evidence of a better flow of her aether.

Britannica pondered the title bestowed to her, considering all of the findings. She embodies the Black, graced by Light... She would think to playfully refer to herself as The Cinereal; the ashen gray implanted in the middle of both. But only in her journal.

Onward

Britannica saved the realm a thousand times over, and now, she decides to take a breather, and set some roots down. She finally took the time to do more with her weaving, learning much beyond simple stitches and patch repairs to keep her own coffers full, and has plans to buy a plot in Ishgard to build a home for friends and loved ones alike to visit her, until she's once again called upon to aid the realm.

Hooks

Sacred Markings: Britannica does well to keep her forehead covered as best as she can, to conceal the markings she bears. Ask her about the design of her hat to get her to remove it, to ask about her markings then.OCD Tendencies: The Miqo'te has a habit of checking her clothing for lint, smoothing wrinkles out and pulling at her hem/sleeves to make sure they're at the proper length. She'll do it to someone she's conversing with as well. She'll ask you of your tailor.Knowledge is Power: Britannica, coming from a very affluent background, is well learned in many things. Forever learning, she can be seen sitting with a book, reading about a subject. If there's something you'd like to learn, she has enough knowledge to share.Let's Make Magick: Britannica is extremely learned in the workings of magick and aether, and in her downtime offers classes on the subjects. Some flyers offering a free first lesson can be found around Ul'dah, Ishgard, and Old Sharlayan.Coffee Date: With a ferocious sweet tooth like hers, Britannica can't stand to stay way from her haunt for long; a local cafe in Old Sharlayan. Care to join her? Her treat.Magicked Eye for the Fab Guy: A weaver by trade and fashionista otherwise, Britannica offers to go shopping with you for the latest in fashions.
